Soft Corals


There are over 2,000 speices of Soft Corals and colonial polyps, they are extremely beautiful and because they do not usually need the bright lights that hard corals require, soft corals are popular and easy to keep.

Below are the main species of soft corals that we continually stock at Water Decor, although many more are available to us and can be ordered when requested.

Bush Coral



Origin: Tropical Indo Pacific
Feeding: Contains photosynthetic pigments but will benefit from regular feeding with planktonic food.
Size: Grows large
Lighting: T5 or metal halide
Flow: Moderate to strong

Button Polyps



Origin: Tropical Indo Pacific
Feeding: Contains photosynthetic pigments but will benefit from regular feeding with meaty food like mysis
Size: Individuals are small. Will spread where space allows.
Lighting: T8/T5 or metal halide
Flow: Moderate to strong

Starburst Polyps



Origin: Central Pacific, Eastern Asia, South Asia
Feeding: Traps small particle foods
Size: Individuals are small. Will spread where space allows.
Lighting: T5 or metal halide
Flow: Moderate to strong

Cauliflower Coral



Origin: Tropical Indo Pacific
Feeding: Contains symbiotic algae and traps small particle foods
Size: Large, fast growing
Lighting: T8/T5 or metal halide
Flow: Low to indirect high flow

Bushing Finger Coral



Origin: South Pacific
Feeding: Contains photosynthetic pigments but also consumes fine particle foods
Size: Grows 7-10"
Lighting: T5 or metal halide
Flow: Moderate

Size: Grows large

Glove Polyp



Origin: Indonesia
Feeding: Traps small particle foods
Size: Individuals are small. Will spread where space allows.
Lighting: T8 or T5
Flow: Moderate

Mushroom Anemone



Origin: Tropical Indo-Pacific
Feeding: Traps small particle foods and ingests it through the central mouth
Size: Some species can reach up to 10cm across
Lighting: Likes low light conditions, perfect to put near the bottom of your aquarium
Flow: Low to moderate

Giant Button Polyps



Origin: Tropical Indo-Pacific
Feeding: Contains photosynthetic pigments but will benefit from regular feeding with meaty foods like mysis
Size: Individuals are small. Will spread where space allows.
Lighting: T8 or T5 metal halide
Flow: Moderate to strong

Colt / Pussey Coral



Origin: Tropical Indo-Pacific
Feeding: Contains symbiotic algae but will also benefit from regular feeding with planktonic food
Size: Grows large
Lighting: Strong T8/T5 or metal halide
Flow: Moderate

Cathedral Coral



Origin: Tropical Indo-Pacific
Feeding: Contains photosynthetic pigments but will benefit from regular feeding with planktonic food
Size: Grows large (species can reach 45cm)
Lighting: T5 or metal halide
Flow: Moderate to strong

Cabbage Coral



Origin: Tropical Indo-Pacific
Feeding: Primarily photosynthetic but will also consume particle foods
Size: Grows large (will fill as much space as they can within the aquarium
Lighting: Strong T8/T5 or metal halide

Feeding: Primarily photosynthetic pigments but will also consume particle foods
