Crabs are a type of crustacean, they have a hard protective exoskeleton which covers their whole body. From time to time this exoskeleton will be shed in order to allow the creature to grow.

The shedding happens in such a way that the exoskeleton comes away in one whole piece, often because of this some aquarists are fooled into thinking they have two, or that their specimen has perished.

Here at Water Decor we stock different types of dwarf hermit crabs as they are herbivorous and are excellent at eating algae and detritus. These do not grow too large or cause a threat in the home aquarium.

We also stock arrow crabs, these are great for eating waste food in the home aquarium and also for helping to keep the populations of bristle/fire worms under control.
